What can I start doing now that will help me a lot in about five years?

Just know your feeling. Understand your deepest emotions.
Talk to yourself and the most of all never forget to give yourself time for the things you love doing. May be its the lamest thing that you feel happy doing. Just go and do it.
Your life is all about you and how you feel.
Read, and apply, the lessons taught in How to Win Friends and Influence people.
If you take this outlook to life, you’ll go far!
Make friends.
Learn a new language.
Learn a new musical instrument.
Eat right and exercise. Finish your veggies, like your mom told you.

This is a fantastic question and I wish I had the smarts to ask it when I was 23 – instead I wasted a truckload of time, money, got married to the wrong person and also didn’t understand (or learn) the fundamentals of an enduring relationship.
With that being said I really recommend reading and applying all that you can from a very special book called How to Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie.
Also one of the best and most entertaining books on Male/Female relationships is called Why Med Don’t Listen and Women can’t Read Maps by Allan and Barbara Pease.
Money, money, money…you want to learn to be it’s master and not it’s slave. The book – The Richest Man in Babylon is a great start and also learning about Gold and Silver. Here is some of the best info you will find (super interesting to watch too) Silver & Gold – Hidden Secrets Of Money Ep 1 – Currency vs Money – Mike Maloney
-Learn computer programming
-Do some SERIOUS volunteer time for 6 months. I’m talking 20 hours a week outside of what you do
-Develop a strong friendship with someone new every 3 months. I’m talking best friend level. To do this, tell a girl you love her, she will be like “we should just be friends”.
-Do something really hard for you and fail miserably at it. This will teach you how other’s feel when they get in over their head in trying to learn something that will make them a better person.
-Learn Kickboxing, not the “black belt” kind, but the serious kind that you could use in a jam
-Learn NLP. Neuro Linguistic Programming
“How you do one thing, is how you do everything” Do anything with tenacity.
First, you have to learn about yourself. Know what you’re good at, what you have to offer, and what you want out of life. This is the only way to know what you can do now that can help you in five years. A general direction.
Second – generally, go out and meet people. Learn to communicate and build strong relationships. It helps you build empathy, a larger ‘lens’ to look at the world, support for yourself, support for others.
